"TEACH THE MOTHER: An Aarohan Initiative for Community Women " - Maria Montessori
Launched in 2012, ‘Teach the Mother’ is a natural extension of Aarohan’s education program for children. It is a step towards fulfilling our long cherished commitment to all-round development of women. The program aims at women’s empowerment while emphasizing her role as a responsible parent to her children.
Aarohan believes that the growth of the child is proportionate to the strength of the mother. By linking gender and child development, the program is committed to helping community women become financially independent and gain better control of their lives. Women are made aware of their rights and choices through education and awareness programs.
At our Skill Development Centre in New Delhi, training is imparted in literacy, tailoring, embroidery and fashion designing.
The certified course, taught in accordance with the USHA Silai School curriculum, is complemented with lessons on personal grooming for the women to step out in the world, confident and independent. The women are sensitised about the textile landfills and encouraged to up cycle the textile waste. Women make beautiful products. In 2019 these trainees (women) reused more than 100kgs of textile waste.
For better livelihood opportunities, short courses are also offered on financial literacy, entrepreneurial skills and retail management.
