AAROHAN'S VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS

They say that there is a long gap between conception and completion. Aarohan’s vocational training center is the natural completion of a cycle that began 5 years ago when Aarohan first started working towards its aim of 100% literacy. As with any ambitious project, Aarohan’s mission to eradicate illiteracy has also faced many hurdles. One of the biggest hurdles came with the realization that it is an uphill task to sustain the children up to class 12th. Primarily because once the children reach 13-14 years of age, they are forced to earn and add to the family income.

Our vocational training center helps the children enhance many skills which can later become a respectable source of livelihood for them. Today Globalization has made it necessary for everyone to know Computers and the English language to avail maximum opportunities of livelihood. Looking at these needs, Aarohan has introduced Vocational Training Center which includes:- Spoken English, Computer Learning, Traditional Dance and Art classes Spoken English- These classes are held in association with the British council and the Times of India group. These classes are taught by Dr. Malini Shivram and volunteers from The Times of India group. 65 students are currently benefitting from this program. She has got her training from the British council and teaches the students who wish to work immediately. We also try to place the students with the help of our supporters. Computer learning- This is an extension of the Habitat Learning Center. Being tech- savvy is an important aspect of formal education today. Therefore we hold classes where the students are familiarized with the basics of computers like MS-Word, Notepad, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet and gain computer skills. 85 students are currently benefitting from this program.

Art class-

‘An artist cannot fail; it is a success to be one’. And our budding artists are fortunate to have art classes under national award recipient Shri Ganga Narayan Maharana. These classes are held twice a week i.e. Tuesday and Friday (3 pm - 5 pm).

The innovative paintings of the children have been put up on this site.

Dance-

Traditional Dance forms in India are fast disappearing. The stigma related to dance needs to be removed from the minds of parents and instead the rich heritage of India needs to be preserved. Our dance classes are held under trained dance teacher Dinesh Parihar who is Masters in Kathak from the Jaipur Gharana. These classes are held Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1 pm- 3 pm.

Mehendi and Rangoli Making-

Total education involves the head, the heart and the hand. Mehendi and rangoli making are substantial earning means at the time of festivals and require skillful use of the hand. These have been highly cherished skills in India. Aarohan acts as a bridge between children with these skills and the families with an upcoming wedding or function. These skills especially help the girls earn some money.

Such diverse skills help our children choose the course of their life and enable them to face any situation by giving them a means to earn respectfully.

Objectives:
  • To enable the children to earn respectfully.
  • To prepare them to face any hardships of their lives.
  • To make them self-reliant.
  • To protect our Indian Heritage by encouraging traditional art and dance forms.
  • boost the confidence of children.
  • To encourage women participation.
