In our continued efforts towards achieving 100% literacy, we are commencing an adult education program for women-“Educate the Mother” :
It is said that "Educating a woman is educating an entire family". Mother is the first teacher of a child. A woman who knows about health, hygiene and education improves the quality of life for her family. She also does a great service to the entire society by raising educated and responsible future citizens. Unfortunately women literacy in India is only 54.16%. Women from the lowest economic background are often unable to even write their own names. It is an alarming situation and must be addressed immediately. For this purpose, Aarohan is now starting functional literacy classes for women in Jagdamba camp, Sheikh Sarai. We conducted extensive survey in this slum dwelling and convinced the women to join the classes. We conducted a meeting in the Sheikh Sarai police station with these women on 30th May. We wished to make the ladies realize that if they remained illiterate, their children will also remain unmotivated to learn. To our pleasant surprise, 60-70 women came to attend the meeting.
