JAGDAMBA CAMP NURSERY PROJECT:

Nursery is located in the Jagdamba Camp slum area in Sheikh Sarai, New Delhi. This project runs a daily nursery wherein children from the ages of 3 to 5 years can learn, play and have a basic introduction and preparation to mainstream schooling. The project:
  • Provides a physically secured and hygienic learning environment for otherwise neglected children.
  • Facilitates basic cognitive development of children ranging from the ages of 3 to 5 years through specific class activities.
  • Teaches children a basic social decorum that they do not receive due to the absence of parental care in their early childhood.
  • Prepares these children, through such classes and training to better assimilate into mainstream schools. If children are able to adjust and cope in schools from an early age, they will be less likely to drop-out later on.
  • Spread awareness amongst parents as to how to care for their children’s early development so that they may replicate the same. In addition to the inculcation of basic routine and discipline in the lives of the children, we hope to familiarize parents with the routine, school processes and practices, so that they are able to support their children in their academic pursuits.
  • Trains parents in the completion of necessary documentation such as birth certificates, registrations, recording date of births etc. when their children are still at a young age.
  • In addition to the direct benefit to the aforementioned age group, the Jagdamba Nursery Project was also a response to the needs of older students who were unable to attend school because they were needed to take care of their younger siblings. With Aarohan taking care of the children for a few hours everyday, their older siblings, especially girls were able to find the time to pursue their own education.
