PROJECT ASHA

PROJECT ASHA is entirely dedicated to those children who never got an opportunity to pursue basic education due to excruciating personal circumstances as well as lack of resources. Forced to live a meaningless existence, they had no option but to take to the streets to eke out a living for themselves as well as their families. Project Asha came as a harbinger of hope for them as it harnesses the untapped potential in them so that they become a boon, not a bane for the society. It encourages children to become active learners by helping them to forge an unbreakable bond with the books and change their course of lives. Children are ably supported and guided to undertake entrance exams and, subsequently, seek admission in various schools. Project Asha also works with school dropouts who left their studies midway due to unforeseen and cataclysmic turn of events. As majority of these children are slum-dwellers living below the poverty line, their home environment isn’t conducive to support them academically. This is where Project Asha steps in to fill these gaps with some path-breaking corrective measures. High motivational levels coupled with a sound academic support enable these children to return to mainstream schooling.

Project Asha is divided into two categories: Literacy & Education

Phase I: Non-formal education & Preparation

This component of Project Asha is dedicated to providing children with tuition and academic support for upcoming entrance exams in government schools:

  • Preparation classes are held daily
  • Children are divided into groups based on their academic levels and trained in subjects that they will be tested in.
  • Over 120 children are getting the facility of this project every year.
  • Children are provided with a nutritious snack and basic study materials & stationery.

Phase II: Field Assistance in admission procedure

The second phase of this Project begins with the start of the yearly admission cycle. Once the children are prepared to take the entrance examinations, Aarohan staff accompanies them to the local MCD and Govt. of NCT schools and assists in the completion of paperwork and documentation that is involved in the admission of the child.
  • Documents are made for each child seeking admission in the schools.
  • Aarohan staff then accompany the children and their parents to the concerned schools and assist in the filling of required forms,
    submission of necessary documents etc.
  • Children are then informed of the date of the entrance examination and are accompanied to their respective centres by the Aarohan staff.
  • This field assistance service is also provided to the children who are not attending classes at Aarohan, but seek our help in completing application procedures.
  • Objectives :

  • To provide a crash-course nursery experience to primary level children so that they may enter schools well prepared.
  • To make a child’s first steps into the schooling process as smooth and simple as possible by providing academic, logistical and emotional support.
  • To reduce drop-out rates either by preparing students to enter and remain in school, or help those who have already dropped out to again seek admission in school.
  • To assist parents with the admission process so that they are confident enough to approach mainstream educational institutions and replicate the entire procedure with their other children. It also encourages parents to invest time and effort into their child’s education at secondary as well as graduation level.
